PE Water Supply Pipe vs. Conventional Water Supply Pipe
01. Longer service life
Compared with commonly used pipe materials such as cement pipes, PE water supply pipes have a significantly longer service life. Conventional pipes, such as iron pipes, are prone to rusting and can release contaminating chemical substances if left unused for extended periods. In contrast, PE water supply pipes are made of plastic, which does not rust and offers a much longer service life.
02. PE pipes are safer
Conventional ordinary water pipes typically have a service life of only three to four years, making them prone to sewage leakage and groundwater contamination. In some cases, groundwater can infiltrate the sewage system, diluting the wastewater and reducing its concentration. By contrast, PE water supply pipes, being made of high-density polyethylene, are highly resistant to cracking and other forms of failure, thereby preventing leaks and ensuring that they do not contaminate water resources in any way.
03. PE pipes are more heat-resistant
When conventional water pipes leak, the surrounding soil in the pipeline network is easily washed away, leading to loosening of building foundations and even ground subsidence. Moreover, cast-iron pipes are prone to scaling and corrosion on the inside. In contrast, PE water supply pipes do not suffer from these problems. They can even operate normally at temperatures exceeding the boiling point, which is far superior to other types of piping.
PE Water Supply Pipe vs. Plastic Pipe
When comparing PE water supply pipes with plastic pipes, it is evident that, under colder conditions, the material of most plastic pipes becomes more brittle. In other words, if subjected to even moderate external forces at such temperatures, they can easily fracture. Consequently, their service life is significantly compromised. Although plastic pipes are relatively cheaper than PE water supply pipes, the costs associated with maintenance and replacement can be very high.
PE Water Supply Pipe vs. Steel Pipe
Of course, steel pipes offer exceptionally strong structural stability and are also very lightweight. However, due to the inherent properties of steel, they are prone to freezing, which significantly limits their applicability. In addition, steel is more expensive than PE water supply pipes in terms of production costs. Consequently, given the overall cost-performance trade-off of these characteristics, PE water supply pipes are generally used much more frequently.
