The difference between PE water supply pipes and PE drainage pipes

PE water supply pipes are manufactured in strict accordance with national hygiene standards. The raw material is exclusively high-density polyethylene, with no recycled materials or other additives included.
1. Pressure
PE water supply pipes are used to convey potable water, typically by pumping water from underground sources to the surface and into residential homes. Because PE water supply pipes must withstand pumping pressure, they are generally classified into five pressure grades: 0.6 MPa, 0.8 MPa, 1.0 MPa, 1.25 MPa, and 1.6 MPa, corresponding to pressure ratings of 6 kgf/cm², 8 kgf/cm², 10 kgf/cm², 12.5 kgf/cm², and 16 kgf/cm², respectively. The higher the pumping pressure, the higher the required pressure rating for the PE water supply pipe.
Polyethylene drainage pipes are typically used for conveying sewage in a gravity-flow, top-to-bottom configuration; therefore, pressure rating is generally not a consideration for such applications.
2. Price
Because PE water supply pipes are made from virgin HDPE, their cost will be higher than that of PE drainage pipes.
3. Materials
PE water supply pipes are required to deliver potable water for daily domestic use; therefore, they must comply with national hygiene standards and be manufactured from high-density polyethylene that meets these national standards.
Polyethylene drainage pipes, when the applicable conditions are met and with the customer’s consent, shall be offered with recycled material as an option.
