What is the market outlook for plastic piping?

In recent years, the nation’s total water supply has remained stable at around 50 billion cubic meters, reaching 51.342 billion cubic meters in 2011. Of this total, industrial water use accounted for 15.965 billion cubic meters, or 31.09% of the total; domestic water use amounted to 24.765 billion cubic meters, representing 48.24% of the total. In 2011, the length of urban water supply pipelines in China had reached 570,000 kilometers, 1.5 times the figure at the end of the Tenth Five-Year Plan period.

However, many urban water distribution networks suffer from severe leakage, with leakage rates as high as 25%–30%. In contrast, plastic pipes are highly corrosion-resistant; PVC piping systems employ flexible joints, while PE piping systems use fusion welding, both of which deliver outstanding leak-prevention performance. Consequently, as plastic piping continues to evolve and advance in the outdoor water supply sector, the increasing adoption of various types of plastic pipes in urban water distribution networks has become an inevitable trend.

Currently, 37% of the main water supply pipelines in China’s urban networks suffer from severe aging, while 32.8% are made of substandard materials. The aging, damage, and corrosion of urban water supply networks are widespread, resulting in an average water loss rate of 20% and substantial resource waste. Consequently, there is significant demand for leak repair and the replacement of existing urban water supply plastic pipelines with new ones.
