During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, in response to the national drive for energy conservation and emissions reduction and in accordance with the principle of “heat-based power generation” in power investment and construction, an increasing number of steam combined-cycle units have been commissioned across the country. These cogeneration projects, as well as distributed energy systems providing heat, power, and cooling, deliver qualified steam to end-users via a network of dedicated steam pipelines. In the course of constructing such steam pipeline networks, it is often necessary to cross roads (and railways) and span rivers. Due to site constraints and surrounding environmental conditions, it is not always feasible to rely solely on open-cut trenching and overhead truss crossings during pipeline installation; consequently, trenchless construction techniques have demonstrated their distinct advantages. This paper, drawing on actual project experience, focuses on the application of trenchless technologies in the construction of large-diameter, long-distance steam pipelines.
