Electrofusion Fittings For plastic (polyethylene) pipe fittings, fusion joining is achieved by generating heat through electric current. The rated current (i.e., amperage) is the primary parameter. In some low-voltage circuits where voltage requirements are not stringent, only the amperage rating is specified.

Development of PE Piping Systems
Polyethylene (PE) is a family of resins that can be produced through a variety of processes, exhibiting diverse structures, properties, and applications. It currently accounts for one-third of global synthetic resin production. Research on the application of PE pipes began in the 1940s; initially, they were used as conduits for telephone lines and for gravity drainage in mines (low-density PE pipes). By the mid-1950s, PE pipes had been adopted for water supply (high-density PE pipes). In the mid-1960s, PE pipelines were employed for the transmission and distribution of natural gas (using medium- to high-density PE pipes). Today, PE pipe systems have become the second most widely consumed type of plastic piping worldwide, after PVC-U pipes. Extensive research has been conducted to enhance their performance in applications such as gas transmission, water supply, wastewater management, agricultural irrigation, oilfield operations, mining, chemical processing, and telecommunications infrastructure design and construction.
Polyethylene Electrofusion Fittings characteristics
In the sales and application of polyethylene pipeline management systems, fittings account for approximately 15% to 20% of total sales. Polyethylene pipeline system fittings are mainly categorized into hot-melt fittings and electrofusion fittings. Due to their cost-effectiveness, they are widely used in engineering applications. Hot-melt fittings are consumed in greater quantities than electrofusion fittings; however, electrofusion fittings play an indispensable and critical role in both new construction and maintenance projects. In particular, during installation, electrofusion fittings are less susceptible to external environmental conditions and human error, resulting in higher reliability and greater user acceptance. Notably, the use of electrofusion fittings is increasingly prevalent in gas pipeline projects. Meanwhile, due to Electrofusion Fittings The production technology and processes are complex, costly, and command high market prices; consequently, manufacturers of electric-fusion pipe fittings enjoy relatively high profit margins, making this area a hot spot for corporate investment and research.
At the same time, since electrofusion pipes are based on PE material, PE piping systems composed of PE pipes address two major drawbacks of conventional piping: joint corrosion and leakage. The key advantages are as follows: (1) Corrosion resistance: resulting in a long service life; (2) Leak-free joints: the use of electrofusion fittings ensures that the material and structural integrity of the joint interface are consistent with those of the pipe body itself, effectively integrating the joint with the pipe material and achieving true monolithic performance; and (3) Effective resistance to underground movement and end loads: after the piping system is joined by welding, the joints formed using this method can reliably withstand end loads without leaking. Moreover, PE’s stress-relaxation properties allow it to efficiently distribute stresses through deformation, so in most cases no costly anchoring is required at joints or bends. In addition, due to its high toughness and elongation at break—typically exceeding 500%—PE piping systems exhibit exceptional adaptability to differential settlement caused by uneven foundation conditions.
