Electrofusion fittings feature a large-radius transition, effectively reducing water pressure. Under conditions of thermal expansion and cold contraction due to temperature fluctuations, the fitting’s unique curved structure naturally accommodates axial expansion and contraction movements of the pipeline, providing sufficient axial displacement allowance for thermal expansion and contraction. It also boasts distinctive features such as plastic support, variable deflection, and self-adjusting responsiveness. Furthermore, this product enhances the pressure-bearing capacity of the pipe fittings. Electrofusion Fittings There is a cooling zone of 10–20 mm between the copper wires at both ends and the pipe end; this distance increases as the nominal outer diameter of the electrofusion fitting increases. PE electrofusion fittings are lightweight, feature a simple welding process, are easy to install, and offer low overall costs, thereby meeting pipeline requirements and providing convenient use. The following section introduces the basic knowledge of electrofusion fittings:
I. Precautions During the Use of Electrofusion Fittings
1. Electrofusion fittings are flammable plastic products and must be handled with care during transportation, storage, and handling. Direct contact with flammable, explosive, or corrosive chemicals is strictly prohibited to prevent fires.
2. Pay attention to welding parameters during use. The primary cause of ignition in most electrofusion fittings is improper parameter settings, mainly excessive voltage or current and excessively long welding times.
II. Points to Note During the Installation of Electrofusion Fittings:
1. During installation, the inner wall and welding area of electrofusion fittings shall be free of organic matter and contaminants. In addition, a safe distance must be maintained during the welding process to prevent unnecessary damage.
2. Electrofusion Fittings The landfill area must be located below the permafrost layer. It should be noted that during installation and welding, the pipelines must not be submerged in water.
3. In harsh environments with large diurnal temperature variations, support devices such as pipe stabilizers should be promptly installed to secure the pipeline, thereby preventing thermal expansion and contraction from compromising weld quality; furthermore, when temperatures are exceptionally low, insulation measures must be implemented to avoid unnecessary losses.
4. During the cooling process, the pipeline must not be moved arbitrarily.
3. During operation, electrofusion fittings may sustain damage. What are the causes of such damage?
Due to environmental factors, the surface of electrofusion fittings may develop defects such as roughness or grooves. If the critical surface roughness occurs during electrofusion, it may be caused by excessively high or low die-head temperature, resulting in surface roughness. Low core-mold temperature and low machine-body temperature can lead to roughness on the inner surface. Excessively high cooling-water temperature also causes surface roughness; therefore, the cooling-water temperature should be reduced. For PP-R fittings, the recommended cooling-water temperature is 20–30°C.
Electrofusion Fittings The manufacturer shall inspect the water passages for blockages, verify the water pressure, check the heating rings for damage, assess the properties of the raw materials, and consult the raw-material supplier. If the mold temperature is high, adjust the core temperature of the mold and the temperatures of the individual mold components. If contaminants are present, activate the temperature-control system and installation, then inspect and clean the mold. When grooves appear on the surface of electric fusion fittings, the diameter of the water curtain should be adjusted, the pressure balanced, and the nozzle angle fine-tuned to ensure uniform cooling of the pipe; additionally, any foreign matter or burrs must be inspected and removed.
