Now let’s briefly discuss PE. Pipe fittings Installation methods and common connection types in piping engineering
Installation Method for Connecting PE Pipe Fittings
1. Cut the end of the PE pipe flush, ensuring there is no plastic powder or other debris.
2. Install all components of the PE pipe fittings onto the PE pipe in sequence, as shown in the diagram.
3. Tip:
(1) The exposed length of the pipe at the front end of the sealing ring should be between 5 and 10 millimeters; it should not be excessively long and may only be adjusted appropriately within the specified range based on the PE pipe diameter.
(2) If the inclined end face of the pressure pad contacts the steel clamp, and the installation direction is incorrect, the PE pipe fitting may fail to withstand high pressure.
(3) During installation, be sure to manually tighten the steel clamp securely to prevent the sealing ring and compression washer from slipping, and ensure that the pipe is properly seated within the PE fitting. Otherwise, the pipe may be inserted into the fitting for too long, which can adversely affect its performance.
4. After installation, tighten using the designated wrench.
Factors Leading to Damage of PE Water Supply Pipes
No matter what kind of material is used over the long term, various problems are bound to arise—and PE pipes are no exception. Sometimes they can become damaged during operation. Let’s discuss the factors that lead to such damage.
1. Issues with the piping itself: The current PE water supply pipe market appears rather chaotic, with significant variability in quality among products from different manufacturers. If the water supply pipes and fittings used in a project are not from the same manufacturer, or if the pipes are stored outdoors, their quality may deteriorate, thereby compromising the overall quality of the project.
2. Construction quality issues mainly manifest as cracking and leakage at joints, primarily due to the failure to promptly clean the PE water supply pipes during installation and Pipe fittings The welded joints are exposed to water, dust, and contaminants, resulting in weak hot-melt adhesion, or due to insufficient control over parameters such as hot-melt time and butt-pressure.
3. Human factors, such as sharp rocks embedded in the construction backfill, can cause leaks when heavy vehicles pass over them; drilling holes in pipelines to steal water; pipeline leaks during excavator operations; and damage caused by bulldozers—all of these can lead to water leakage and damage to PE water supply pipes.
The foregoing provides an overview of the factors that can lead to damage to PE water supply pipes, including product quality, construction quality, and human error—all of which are controllable. In addition, it is essential to engage a team that is highly responsible and skilled in construction, ensures meticulous workmanship, enhances operational efficiency, and delivers reliable, high-quality results.
Common Connection Methods in Pipeline Engineering
Pipe Threaded Connections (Galvanized Steel Pipes, Plastic-Lined Galvanized Steel Pipes)
1. Cutting the pipe: Based on the on-site measurement sketch, mark the selected pipe section and then cut the pipe along the marked line.
When cutting a pipe with a grinding wheel, place the pipe in the grinding wheel cutter’s vise, align it with the scribed line, and clamp it securely. Then cut the pipe. As the pipe breaks, apply even pressure to the handle—do not exert excessive force. After the pipe has fractured, remove the scale and burrs from the pipe end.
2. Thread the cable: Thread the cable through the ruptured pipe according to its diameter.
3. Installation: Install the threaded pipe according to the on-site survey sketch.
All threads that have been heated and straightened must be marked, removed, re-coated with lead-based grease, and then tightened using the marks as reference.
That’s all for today’s episode. Thank you for watching, and see you in the next one!
